Use This Piece As Your Personal Gardening Guide

There are a lot of methods out there for creating a brilliant organic garden. You can build your garden as soon as you do some basic fundamental research.

So that you don’t shock your plants, try gradually accustoming them to conditions and temperature. Try placing them outside in sunlight for about an hour or maybe two the first day. Then over a weeks time, slightly increase their time outside. By weeks end, you should have plants that are ready for a permanent home outside with no problem!

Using a shovel in clay soil is a lot of work, not only is the clay hard, but it will stick to the shovel and make it twice as hard to handle. Try applying a coat of wax onto your spade prior to working with clay soil, and then buff the spade head with a cloth. This will keep the soil from sticking, and prevent rusting of the tool.

In the cold winter months, you can salvage certain plants by bringing them into the house. You might want to transplant your most valuable varieties. Cautiously avoid the roots while digging, and put your plant into a perfectly sized pot.

Before planting seeds, soak them overnight. Place them in a cupboard or other place where they won’t be exposed to light. Take 3-4 seeds, put them in a small jar or container, and cover them with water. This lets water soak into the seeds, giving them an extra boost of hydration when they start growing. The young plants will survive better, and get a boost toward maturity.

Make sure to protect your tender shrubs from the elements. Cold weather is very hard on these tender shrubs, and potted shrubs should be shielded and protected. Try to tie the tops all together and cover them with a sheet, large piece of cloth, or blanket. People sometimes use plastic to wrap their plants, but plastic can cause the plants to rot because it impedes air circulation.

Take the time to spread around five centimeters of organic mulch near your vegetable plants. When you place mulch around your plants, it keeps the ground more moist. It will also dramatically decrease weed growth. Every gardener can appreciate pulling fewer weeds.

It is particularly important for new gardeners to read and follow instructions that come with tools, as well as chemicals. If you ignore them, you can irritate your skin in most painful ways. Following instructions for the use of harsh chemicals can keep you safe from serious injury.

Don’t use broad-spectrum pesticidal products anywhere in your gardening area. These strong pesticides are non-selective, killing beneficial insects as well as pests. Since these pesticides often affect the good bugs more than the bad, using them can actually increase your pest problem. This may then lead to using even more pesticides to eliminate this new problem.
